The Society of Women Engineers - Los Angeles Section will be hosting our annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) on April 1st, 2022. Due to the dynamic nature of COVID-19 considerations and restrictions, we will be hosting this event virtually but with a mirrored agenda to our typical Professional Development Conference. Registration fees will cover an all-day, all access pass to a keynote address, 5 lightning talks, interactive workshop, breakout/networking sessions, a swag bag filled with gear from SWE-LA and our sponsors! All proceeds from this event will go to the SWE - Los Angeles Scholarship Program. We appreciate your support!
We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Candace Givens, VP of Engineering at Virgin Orbit, as our outstanding keynote speaker. Dr. Candace Givens is Virgin Orbit’s Vice President of Engineering. She is a people oriented executive and bridge builder with a strong commitment to equitable business practices, smart organizational design and operational excellence. Her experience spans more than 25 years of managing complex, technical and mission critical programs across the commercial, government and defense sectors. She is known for leading with integrity and creating an inclusive, respectful and inspiring environments for innovation, collaboration and results.
Prior to joining Virgin Orbit, Candace served as the VP of Remote Sensing Programs (RSP) within
Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector. In this role Candace directed the business unit,
focusing on key space systems, payloads and software that supported customer missions. In this
$500 million business she drove operational and production efficiencies with integrated development and design activities across the product lines. Candace began her aerospace career at TRW Space and Defense, in Redondo Beach, CA and also worked at Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems in El Segundo, CA. She has held numerous leadership positions in program and functional management and systems engineering, led multi-disciplined engineering teams that have implemented successful process improvement strategies, and delivered solutions across the full lifecycle of satellite platforms.
