2018 Professional Development Conference
SWE Los Angeles Professional Development Conference 2018 - "The Long Game: How Strategic Leaders Shape the Future"
The Society of Women Engineers - Los Angeles Chapter will be hosting our annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) on April 20th, 2018. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks will be provided as part of your registration fees. All proceeds from this event will go to the SWE - Los Angeles Scholarship Program.
We are extremely pleased to have the following outstanding keynote speaker:
Julie L. Webster is currently the Manager for the Cassini Spacecraft Operations Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. She has been at JPL for 24 years, the last 22 years on the great Cassini Mission to Saturn. Her work on Cassini began during the system-level Assembly, Launch and Test Operations in 1995 where she was responsible for running the electrical tests on the spacecraft, including thermal vacuum, acoustics, and vibration testing to ensure survival after launching. After seven years spent working on the mission cruise phase, she became the Spacecraft Operations manager in 2003. In this role, Julie lead and directed engineering operations throughout all of the science phase, which ended in the grand finale dive into Saturn’s atmosphere on September 15, 2017. Julie and her team managed to keep a sophisticated spacecraft in good health for 20 years in space while making great discoveries to further our understanding of Saturn and where life may be found in the Solar System. Her previous interplanetary spacecraft experience in Mission Operations includes Magellan and Mars Observer.
Prior to working at JPL, Ms. Webster was with Martin Marietta Astronautics, where she did system test engineering, Assembly, Test and Launch Operations (ATLO) and flight operations for several spacecraft, missile, and launch vehicle programs.
Ms. Webster has been awarded two NASA Exceptional Service Medals during the Cassini launch and cruise in 1995-1999 and a NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal for the Saturn Orbit Insertion and Probe Relay events.
Julie has a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Utah, where she also did graduate work in Mechanical Engineering. She worked for several years as a chemist before entering the aerospace field.
